Where in the World is Sarah? (Chapter 1: The India Chronicles)
Dec 20, 2025For as long as I can remember, my life has felt like a real-life game of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? My friends and family have grown used to the "dropped pins" from different time zones and the constant rotation of backgrounds in our FaceTime calls.
But lately, the tracker has stayed pinned in one place: India.
I’ve received a lot of messages lately asking the same thing: "Wait, have you officially moved to India? Are you settled now?"
The short answer: Not exactly. The long answer involves a red coat, a dual-passport romance, and a plan to see the world one 90-day stint at a time. Maybe.
The Plot Twist: It’s Not a Vacation, It’s a Life
If you’ve seen a new face in my photos, that’s Aditya. Ours isn't just a travel romance; it’s an intercultural partnership that has completely changed the way I see the world. I met him last year over our shared love for the outdoors and adventure and never looked back since.
We’ve decided to trade the traditional "white-picket-fence" dream for something a bit more... nomadic. Our goal for the next few years isn't to settle down in one country, but to spend months at a time embedded in different regions across the globe.
India is Chapter One.
We aren't here for a two-week whirlwind tour of the Taj Mahal. We are here living, working, and figuring out how to navigate life as an intercultural couple in one of the most vibrant (and sometimes beautifully chaotic) places on Earth.
Why "Location Independent"?
I’m often asked how I’m "affording" to travel for years. The truth is, I’m not "on travel"—I’m at work.
Being location independent means our office is wherever we can find a stable Wi-Fi connection and a strong cup of chai. It means:
-
Slow Travel: Staying for 3+ months to actually learn the local grocery store owner’s name.
-
The Hustle: Balancing Zoom calls with power outages and local festivals.
-
Cultural Immersion: Not just seeing the sights, but understanding the local perspective through Aditya’s eyes.
What’s Next?
This blog is where I’ll be documenting the raw, unedited version of this global experiment. I want to share the highs (finding the perfect street food) and the lows (the paperwork of being a nomad).
I’ll be diving deep into:
-
Intercultural Love: How we blend our two worlds while navigating a third.
-
The Nomad Guide: The practical side of working from anywhere.
-
The India Diaries: Stories from our current home base.
The red trench coat is staying on, but I’m swapping the fedora for a headset. India is our current base camp, but the world is the destination.
